Why You'll Love It
Ashton Hills was established by winemaker Stephen George who was one of original pioneers of the Adelaide Hills wine region, together with Brian Croser. His relentless pursuit of creating the best Pinot Noir from his vineyard is what has gotten the vineyard where it is today. Working with one of the coolest and wettest sites in Adelaide Hills - sitting 570m asl, south facing, Stephen spent over 30 years experimenting with 25 different clones before he settled on the final 5 that works best with his site.
All five estate clones made the grade for the 2016 vintage of Reserve with 40% from the two Martini clones, 30% from D5V12, 20% from 777 and 10% from MV6. Like previous vintages one third of this Reserve Pinot Noir was matured in new French oak.
Murky brick red in colour. Lovely intense nose immediately draws you in, with aromas of ripe strawberries and red berries. Medium weight with ultra fine silky tannins, balanced acidity, ripe strawberry, spicy flavours.
