Why you’ll love it:
Giuseppe Benanti is one of the original pioneers to put Etna on the wine map. In 1988 he was one of the first Etna producers to see the potential in their native white grape Carricante. The wines are produced from 35 to 50 year old vines grown at an altitude ranging from 900 to 1000m above sea level on sandy, volcanic, mineral rich soils. The grapes are picked at optimal ripeness in late October. After a soft pressing fermentation proceeds at temperatures of 18-20°C in stainless steel vats using patented selected indigenous yeast. The wine matures briefly in tanks before maturation for 10-12 months in bottle.
Intense bouquet of flinty, minerality and pear that flows on to the palate with added layers of honeydew melon, white peach, citrus and hint of sea salt. Medium bodied, crisp yet textural mouthfeel with refreshing acidity that balances initial richness. Lovely persistent, tangy finish.
